Happy Friday!
Once again I'm off to the beach this weekend! I'm heading out of town after work today and going up to Connecticut to spend some time with my dear friend L.

Before I head out..I just had to share this adorable video from an up and coming episode of Sesame Street. Its by the artist Feist...they did a little re-work on her hit song 1,2,3,4 which I'm sure all of you are familiar with if you listen to the radio or even watch tv! Its the cutest thing ever...I found myself singing it on my walk to work this morning. So cute!

What a fabulous weekend it was here on the east coast. Not a cloud in the sky and the waves were amazing thanks to Hurricane Bertha in the Atlantic. I had a great weekend in Delaware visiting my good friend Emily. We spent the weekend at Dewey beach, catching the rays, eating out, shopping and drinking Corona. Couldn't be better. I wish I could have snapped more picture around but happy with the ones I did get. Once I got home and looked through them, they all had such a vintage feel to them. From the amusement park rides to the boardwalk signage.

Sorry I have been m.i.a. the past few weeks. Between the 4th of July holiday and all the weekly business I haven't been able to catch up. This weekend I'm heading to the Delaware Shore to spend a nice girls weekend with 2 of my very best friends. I'm hoping for plenty of sun and some good times! Promise to report back Monday!

I had a busy weekend of painting the apartment and still unpacking....sounds fun right? I did have the chance to get out this afternoon for a wonderful brunch at Essex (you must go here for brunch if visiting the city..the lobster benedict is to die for) and some shopping with a good friend of mine.
On my way home I decided to stop by John Derian Company one of my favorite artists here in the city. He has an beautiful shop down town that I haven't been to in a while but since I was in the area I decided to swing by. Boy did it NOT disappoint. I really wish I could have taken pictures but it was a little tight to sneak a few. I did however snap a few of the beautiful wrapping my treat I bought myself was in. Its for my new desk that will be arriving in a few weeks.. I think it will look perfect!
John Derian has sooo many lovely typographic pieces in his decoupage collection I wish I could have them all! But for now I will cherish my lovely 2.

Heat Wave...Long Days..Fabulous Move

Well the heat has finally calmed down here a bit in the city. Some nasty thunderstorms passed through last night and broke the humidity. It made for a VERY hot moving day but everything went pretty smoothly. As far as I know everything made it in one piece and we are pretty moved in. Unpacking was a pretty large task and still is. I'm finding more spots for different things every day.
Last night I finally picked out my new desk ordered it and also a few book shelves so little by little furniture will come. Saturday I plan on painting my room..which I'm a little nervous. Of course I read through Domino on my way to work this morning and found some great ideas that I love but may be a little out of my reach right now. But we'll see..I'll give myself a nice challenge.
I plan on taking plenty of picture the next few weeks of the transformation so keep checking back!!

oh and p.s. I think I need to Queens represent with these earrings from a wonderful Astoria store called SITE I found via Design Sponge...perfect timing!

Super Find!

I've had my eye out for a new little side table for a while now and think I found the most adorable one today! We have some amazing Housing Works Thrift shops here in the city. They get great pieces of furniture and sometimes list their finds on the website. Well I saw this one today and knew it had to be mine, so I rushed up after work and there it was waiting for me.
I may take some super shiney white paint to it....can you invision it? Am I crazy?

Inside the new apartment!

Yesterday I finally got back to the apartment to get the keys from the landlord and snap a few pictures. Its all soo overwhelming! The space is very open..any very white. This apartment is going to take some creative thinking but I think it will be an amazing before and after.

First is the living room. Which is in the front of the house near the street. My hope is to separate the open space with the couch and a bookcase. Behind the couch and bookcase I hope to put a dining table and 4 chairs.

Beyond the living room separated by a half wall is where we'll have our studio. R can set up his desk and keyboard for his composition work and I am planning on getting and L shaped desk for computer and craft space. Finally an inspirational space.

The kitchen looks the most dated to me. Between the appliances and the old cabinets and counters it will be hard to work with. But we'll see. I'm just happy to have the space. It honestly is about 3 times the size of my kitchen now. I keep on telling myself just because its dated doesn't mean I can't make fabulous food in it.

I had a little trouble getting shots of the bedrooms but I assure you I will have some once we move in. I have a few dilemas I may need some advice on, #1 being the carpet. As you can see its a blueish/grey color in the living room and I will most likely want to cover it. We'll discuss that later.

Here are a few shots of the new neighborhood and the front of the new place! Unfortunately we weren't able to get inside today like we thought but walked around the fabulous neighborhood. There is a wonderful little bakery on the corner..the cupcakes looked amazing! This could be deadly. Everything went smooth signing the lease and it looks like we'll be moving in 2 weeks!

Ahhh is all I have to say. We have started and finished our search for an apartment TODAY! I can't believe its all happened so fast, but we have found an apartment in Astoria that we think will suite us very well.
I don't have pictures to share yet, but here are the most exciting details (well I think so at least)
• I have a front stoop where I can have a large potted plant!
• There will be a work space for kapcity!!!! ahhh finally
• The kitchen is triple maybe quadruple the size mine is now!
• ...and finally the most exciting of all WALK IN CLOSETS!

There are a few minor faults that I'm hoping all of you will be able to help me with. I will be posting about them in the near future.
We will be signing the lease on Thursday and hopefully I'll be able to snap some pictures then to share with all of you.

Well this coming week starts a new chapter in my life here in nyc and hopefully (fingers crossed) a new life for kapcity as well! We're going to begin looking for a new apartment. Our search begins in Astoria Queens, which is a short commute outside of Manhattan. I have a few friends who live here already and love the area.
We're hoping to find a 3 bedroom apartment. Hopefully finding a 3 bedroom will mean R and I can share the extra room as work space. Which would be fabulous!!!!!
If any of you have any comments about Astoria or any apartment leads please let me know.

I just HAD to share some of the funny pictures of an impromptu photo shoot a few of my friends and I had on our late night walk home after a friends birthday party. We ended up walking through the West Village and went by the Marc by Marc store and couldn't resist his fabulous windows.

Hope your weekend is going well! After such I'm super busy week filled with work, birthday parties, babysitting, book club and finalizing everything in my old apartment, I'm taking today to relax and lay low.
I just wanted to share a few pictures of my bedroom here at the new place! Since my room is so small I'm keeping everything simple and clean but still with little touches of "me".
• My dresser, I've had since I was young. It took some convincing my mom to let me move it out of my house in Connecticut but its really the perfect size still for what I have and need.
• I'm still on the search for a painted (I'm not sure which color yet) wooden headboard for my bed but, for the time being I bought some new throw pillows last weekend at Marshall's that suit my decor pretty well.
• Of course here is my newly framed Keep Calm poster. I'm not sure if this is the perfect spot for it yet, but I did want to put it up.
• On top of my dresser I have my mini cake pedestal which usually holds my perfumes but is now home to little Rose my little bunny from The Vintage Magpie. She's accompanied by a few kapcity summer time bracelets and my own K typography bracelet.
• The small bird ornament that is hanging from my mirror is also another Etsy find from the shop dot.dot.dot. I just took a peek into the shop and noticed they have a few spring time mini wreaths for sale right now! They are so cute.

Happy Sunday!
After a wonderful weekend in Connecticut celebrating my Mum's birthday I'm back in the city relaxing and doing a little blog browsing. So yesterday went pretty smoothly. It didn't rain, we were able to fit everything in one trip and the couch was able to make it up in the elevator-my one worry. Not to bad! So Saturday is the big moving day. This week has been so stressful..I'm sure many of you know how it is to move, times it by 10 and that's moving in NYC. Yikes is right.
There are so many thoughts and emotions going through my mind in leaving an apartment I've been in for 3 years and its really the first I've "settled" in since moving to the city almost 4 years ago now. The picture above is the view I'm going to miss the most. I got to look at this beautiful view for the past 3 years day and night and couldn't be more lucky.Along side the many projects I had for myself this week I had maintenance re glaze our bathtub. Back a few months ago when they painted the bathroom the painters knocked a hole in the tub lining that needed to be taken care of. Well...I never knew it was going to be such a big project. The pictures above is what I came home to Tuesday night. Wow is all I have to say. It took me almost 2 hours to get everything back together once the tub dried. PhewThis pre move is the hard part...I'm excited to think the fun part begins next week. A bit of decorating. Again this is a short term move but I want to have fun with it while I can. Be sure to check back!

the good and bad of Opening Day 2008

Well Opening Day at Yankee Stadium proved to be quite the wash out. After sitting in the drizzley cold rain for 2 1/2 hours they finally called the came. Hopefully we'll try again tomorrow night. Still alot of people came to the game and we did have a bit of fun..and the first stadium hot dog of the season..yum!
The big excitement of the day came in the morning! R and I decided to meet for breakfast at our favorite little spot up here on the east side. I got there a few minutes before him and sat down. There were only a few other tables filled in the tiny place mostly with people reading papers. There was one table next to mine that had 3 women who looked as if they just came from the gym. I thought to myself.."oh they are so lucky to not have to work..and just go to the gym and out to breakfast with their girlfriends". So I start to check my text messages and all of a sudden heard the voice of one of the women. I knew it right off the bat! I looked up and who was sitting right there 2 feet in front of me but Americas (former) Sweet Heart - Katie Couric!

Today was a fabulous day here in the city. My best friend from Connecticut came down with her boyfriend for brunch, which was amazing. Then we took a long walk through Central Park. One of the best Spring days so far!We got a little silly after brunch (to much sangria maybe) and had a little jumping contest.

Tomorrow is an extra special day - Yankees Opening Day! I will be sure to post pictures tomorrow evening of the festivities!

So today was filled with lots of errands and packing. I do feel like I got a lot done which is nice.
I took 2 prints I purchased in the past few months to the framer and finally will be able to put them up in the new place. One is the pink "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster (a recent blog-land favorite) and the "You + Me" poster from village.
Packing my clothes came as a bit of a challenge. Putting them in boxes seemed insane..I would have ended up with 50 boxes. So I picked up the amazing space saver bags and they were fabulous! They held so many pieces of clothing and were very easy to carry, I'd recommend them for any move you have in the future.
Tomorrow I'm having brunch with my best friend from home and hopefully enjoying a walk through the park. My camera will be right with me to capture hopefully a bright early spring day.

Well the packing and craziness has all begun..you will see pictures of the packing tomorrow but in the meantime some congratulation and craziness to begin with.

Congratulations go out to my friend with whom I'm moving in with. To put a bump in our plan he went and got himself cast in a show! So..I will be moving into his apartment without him there and settle in for 6 weeks before he gets back from a short stint in Pennsylvania. It was scary at first but now I'm starting to think it could be a good thing. It will give me time to settle in..decorate and nest a bit alone. Which I think could be a good thing. When he returns it will be time to look for a new apartment and then a whole new process begins. I hope all of you will be there along with me. There will be lots to tell for sure.

So I thought my cold was over...boy was I wrong. I've been hit with this seasons never ending cold and it is not fun. After making a trip to the doctors yesterday afternoon I'm here home today from work blowing my nose and napping. I was happy though to hear Enchanted came out on DVD today so I dragged my sick bum down to Blockbuster to rent it. What an adorable movie!!!
I love how Giselle (played by Amy Adams) can magically create stunning outfits out of patterns she cuts out of curtains and rugs. It definitely made my cold a little more bearable.

Sorry I've taken a little break from the blog...and how I've hated to. The winter sickness bug hit me twice and put me out of commission for a bit. But I'm back in blogging mode and have a new exciting blog announcement to make!
The good news....
I'm moving!!!! No, not out of NYC but finally a new space after 3 years in my current apartment.
It will be a 2 part move which will be stressful but super exciting. I plan on documenting my process every step of the way. So there will be lots of decorating to come! I'm soo excited.
The bad news...
kapcity the shop will be closing for a wee bit of time while I get everything squared away. But don't worry, kapcity will be back with a new look and products when everything has settled. I've started planning and sketching already and excited at the possibilities. And you all will be the first to know when I'm ready to open back up.

SO all and all you will be seeing a lot of me here on the blog in the coming months. And it will be exciting let me tell you now. So check back often...leave words of encouragement!

Well...kind of. I just couldn't pass up this adorable little pink bunny from The Constant Gatherer.
I have had my eye on her for some time now and was so excited to finally receive her yesterday. I had to share the box and packaging because it was so beautiful and very me. Right down to the K.P. vintage tiles on the top of the box. Please check out Katie's shop and fabulous blog, her work is truly beautiful.
So...I've also decided to purchase the other little squirrel in the shop. I couldn't resist they both had to be together.

With all the fabulous designers stationed in Bryant Park for fashion week, I was happy enough just to see one of them out this past weekend. On a quick (and very uneventful) trip to Soho on Saturday I spotted Jeffrey Sebelia designer of Cosa Nostra and past Project Runway winner. He was sporting a very large pair of sunglasses (in the rain) and scarf to cover his trademark typographic neck tattoo.

Three! of my most favorite things here.
1. My new fabulous patterned j.crew work tote. I found this great tote at the j.crew outlet when in Connecticut over the New Year. Its perfect for traveling back and forth to work it fits my heels and a hefty fashion magazine. What more could a city girl ask for!

2. My super large navy multi colored polka dot umbrella. Though I can't fit this umbrella in my bag it is still AMAZING! I picked it up last year at Target and it's gotten me through some pretty rainy days.

3. My retired hot pink rain boots. These boots were by far my favorite boots a few years ago. When they started taking in water I couldn't bare to throw them away so...I turned them into an umbrella holder! Perrrfect I say and pretty darn cute!

On Saturday I had a little extra time to work on something new I've had my eyes on for a while. In the holiday Cath Kidston catalog an adorable pattern was included for her little Stanley dog. I decided to try one out for myself and was so please with the outcome! I made a few little kapcity modifications and think he's the sweetest little pup. His name is Henry and I will most definitely be making him some brothers and sisters.
I'm so jealous of all of you over in the UK..I love Cath Kidston!

Every once in a while I babysit for a family here on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. They have 2 lovely (and quite energetic) 7 yr old twin boys who can keep me going for hours. When I was putting them to bed tonight I was pleasantly surprised when they pulled out this adorable book by author Leo Lionni. The cover illustration caught my attention right away. So here I am blogging about it and doing a little bit of research about Leo Lionni. What an interesting life and fabulous designer. I'm an instant fan!

I just wanted to share my latest project with you! I've been very busy lately redecorating my living room..finding the perfect comfortable pieces at a right price. I'm please so far with the outcome and have a few more things to find..but we'll wait until after the holiday for that.
It is very white and bright which I like. I have added some sage and chocolate pillows since the pictures were taken and they are looking quite nice. I plan on posting pictures of affordable finds this weekend.

I do have to say I've been pretty good this year about starting my holiday shopping early. With all the holiday festivites in December my time is going to be pretty limited. Picking out that fabulous holiday outfit is so exciting..I hope you've started on that as well!

To help all of you with your shopping here are 4 of my favorite stops when looking gifts this holiday season.
1. I do have to put my kapcity on the top of the list. Many of my friends are getting customized special gifts just for them. And you can get them too for yours! Give them a special Monogram bracelet. Many letters available..and if you would like one thats not there..just convo me.

2. They've really got it going over there at Etsy these days. They've put together
a gift giving holiday guide thats to die for! I hope they keep this year round. Its the perfect way to give handmade!3. Creature Comforts has been a great stop for holiday gifts as well. They have put together a stellar list and feature some amazing designers and are very in-tune to well designed pieces.
My favorite section is the $20 and under, which features one of my most favorite stores shim & sons.4. See Jane Work is great for the stationery lover and organizer in your life (uhhmmm - ME).

Celebrity Sighting #3

While walking to the subway from a little holiday shopping I walked right by Atoosa Rubenstein former Editor and Chief of Seventeen Magazine. I've always thought she had fabulous rich dark hair and she does!
Since her departure from Seventeen she's started a teen web based business and a consulting firm specializing in the youth market. Good for her!

So...right before I was about to head out to lunch today my dear friend called me to tell me they were filming Sex & the City in Bryant Park today. So I gathered up my things camera in hand and headed up there! Please click on each to enlarge!
So from what I could get from the shoot was that they were coming out of Bryant Parks Fashion Weeks Tents and there were fur protesters and they were fighting with them. That's all I'm saying..I wouldn't want to ruin any plot lines!

After getting my issue weeks late 2 months ago, I was excited to see I had gotten it so early this time around. Richie Rich from Heatherette (shown on the left with Tinsley Mortimer during NYC's Fashion Week)!! Was shopping around the craziness of 34th Street last night with a gal pal. Who could miss those baby blues!

ma.ma.ma.Martha at Macy's

Working in the craziness of Herold Square again is starting to have its perks. I was able to fight the crowds and quickly snap a few pictures the Martha Stewart windows at Macy's today. Enjoy!

Oh..and on other Martha news. I was at Michael's over the weekend and was told that the Martha line there, isn't selling very well and they are now letting their coupons be used on her products. Great news I say!

There have been a few times living here in NYC where I get the "WOW, I live here" feeling. Last Thursday night was one of those times.

I went to see West Side Story with a few of my friends in the park under the Brooklyn Bridge. The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy shows movies in the park every Thursday night in the summer. What an awesome time!
My favorite quote from the night - Right as the movie was about to begin our friend Brian says, "So what's Casablanca about anyway?" -Brian was a little misinformed as to what we were seeing.

I couldn't be more proud of my high school art department. My tiny little high school in Connecticut has produced some pretty amazing talent over the years. As a young Sophomore I shared the small backroom studio space with a few upper class man..one of which I am so proud to feature!

Sarah Labieniec -Illustrator/Painter/Designer. I love her style, choice of colors and wonderful natural design ability. Last year while browsing through an issue of CMYK I came across her paintings and was so surprised when I saw I knew the artist. Please check out Sarah's website..if only she had an Etsy shop! I know everyone would be snatching up her designs. Congrats Sarah

4th of July Project

I worked on these cute little embroidery pieces over my 4th of July holiday a few weeks ago.
I purchased the patterns from wee wonderfuls , an adorable little blogsite. It was a test for me since I haven't embroidered since I was in girl scouts. The simple iron on patterns were fool proof. A+ for wee wonderfuls....and me!

Shake Shack Love

My office couldn't be in a better location. For lunch I have the option to eat in 2 fabulous parks, 3 days a week I have one of the best farmers markets in the country to shop in, and dozens of top rated restaurants right in walking distance.
Yesterday I went to the Shake Shack! Located on the south end of Madison Square Park. The Shack Burger was named Best Burger at the 2007 Food Network / South Beach Food and Wine Festival. It was truly amazing!

Block Island

I'm back from a fabulous weekend in Block Island, Rhode Island for my "sister" Jess' Bachelorette weekend. We had a great time laying on the beach, shopping and of course a little partying.
I'm sorry to say that the one day I set out shopping in some of my favorite shops I forgot my camera. Believe me..I was pretty upset with myself. I'll be back later in the summer and promise to have a fabulous shop list for you!

I'm heading out tomorrow afternoon for a weekend away to one of my favorite spots..Block Island, Rhode Island. We're having a fabulous bachelorette weekend for my "sister" Jess who is getting married next month.

I decided to leave you with a little picture I recently found...it's the one and only time sadly I have traveled outside the states. Yes that is me on the zonky (donkey painted to look like a zebra), my sister and grandmother are in the cart in the back. How fabulous was 1988?

Green Gardens

This weekend while in Connecticut I took some photos of my Mothers adorable little gardens around our house. I was so impressed at all the different ways she's taken simple green plants and worked them all together to create a beautiful composition of textures. The bird bath at the bottom left is a new addition I picked up for her up in a small garden shop up in Vermont. I love the way she's nestled it in the greenery and added some soft beach stones in the water.

Super Summer Weekend

So I took a little trip back to Connecticut (where I grew up) this weekend for a Brides Maids dress fitting. Not as horrific as it sounds..the dress is very nice and one I know I will wear again, if you can believe it!
While in CT I was able to stop in Michael's and finally check out the line of Martha Stewart product. I was very impressed...EK Success and Martha's team did a great job putting together this line. I picked up only a few things, I couldn't go overboard, so my purchases were:
Issue 4 of Blueprint, Mini Spools of Twine from the Martha line, an Embroidery Hoop for my next mini project, and a spool of Pink Ribbon.

I bought these cute little ballerina toppers from Atomic Veggie back a month or so ago and have been waiting for the right moment to pull them out. So cute aren't they?

Treasury Happy

Over the past month I have been lucky enough to be in a number of Etsy Treasuries, all of which are so beautiful I have to share. I never understood to hype over a Treasury until I made the front page and received so many nice emails and orders from people who loved my Typography Bracelets. So now I say "Add me all you want..and get me to the front page!"

Getting ones Treasury to the front page is a tough task. I've put together a few key points I noticed worked. In the end its all up to the Admin to pick a treasury and I'm sure they are going through them with an Artistic Eye.
1. Pick a Theme, whether it be a color, shape, animal, object or material theme the possibilities are endless.
2. Choose Images that have a similar look to them. Pick a few images that have been shot a similar way and base the rest you choose off of that. This can become tricky but it should be a fun creative challenge.
3. Finally look at your treasury as a whole does it make a nice composition? I sure hope so :)
....these are all suggestions again its up to Etsy Admin, who knows they might choose a buy and replace someday -but thats highly unlikely.

Hello Stranger

Its been tooooo long. Summer has begun and I've been one busy bee. Recovering from a Spring bite of Bronchitis, going back to Connecticut for a wonderful Memorial Day long weekend, and trying to keep up with a successful month in my shop after a fabulous write-up by Emily "theblackapple" herself! Her kind words definitely spiked sales..its amazing how blogs work.

Last weekend I began working on a NEW Summer Collection of Bangles which I listed yesterday. They are adorable if I do say so myself...I'm tempted to keep them! But, they are all available for you to purchase -lucky you!

All of my Summer Bracelets are one of a kind and made from recycled found papers that I have collected. It makes them extra special when your bringing discarded back to life.
